NEW MUSIC ALERT!

I don’t post many things that are worthwhile on this piece of shit, but I thought I’d post this. I was turned on to this guy, Shad, who is a hip-hop artist that is pretty cool. Here’s one of his music videos that he does in the style of the Fresh Prince intro (do I sense a theme on this blog?).

Another cool thing is he offers his albums for free on torrent sites straight from his website. I recommend going ahead and downloading “The Old Prince” and if you like it, buy it! I did. Some of his tracks are a bit religious for me, but the music is good.

“The spacecraft was a long way from home. I thought it would be a good idea, just after Saturn, to have them take one last glance homeward. From Saturn, the Earth would appear too small for Voyager to make out any detail. Our planet would be just a point of light, a lonely pixel hardly distinguishable from the other points of light Voyager would see: nearby planets, far off suns. But precisely because of the obscurity of our world thus revealed, such a picture might be worth having.

It had been well understood by the scientists and philosophers of classical antiquity that the Earth was a mere point in the vast, encompassing cosmos — but no one had ever seen it as such. Here was our first chance, and perhaps also our last for decades to come.

The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner. How frequent their misunderstands; how eager they are to kill one another; how fervent their hatreds. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that in glory and triumph they could because the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot. Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the universe, are challenged by this point of pale light.

Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity — in all this vastness — there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves. Like it or not, for the moment, the Earth is where we make our stand.

It has been said that astronomy is a humbling and character-building experience. There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. My First Photography Commission

Some family friends, the Mabry’s, who contract with me to housesit their house throughout the year have also turned out to be my first photography commission!

I was taking some pictures of their pets for practice with my new 70-300mm lens when I first got it, and I posted those pictures on my photography blog. After seeing those, they asked for me to take a few more of their dog(s) and print off some 5x7s for them.

I just completed that job right now and above are the photos for you all to see. It feels weird to brand the photos with my name now since they are now sold property!

As some of you may know, I am Directing a short film that my brother wrote called “Good Mourning Graves”. It is the debut short film for the production company that my brother, cousin, and I have started. I’m excited and it should be very fun to do.

We’ve started the process and gotten everything all cast and have already had a cast/crew meeting. I’m pretty excited to get started on shooting this film that contains alot of firsts for me as a filmmaker. I think that’s pretty important when approaching something creatively, though. If you don’t continually challenge yourself, then you aren’t learning anything. And learning is the name of the game.
